Scripted & Directed by Suzanne Brady & Annmarie Strain
St John’s Church Hall, Barrhead Saturday 7 December 2019
In December 2019, all sections of Barrhead drama group performed their Christmas show The Spirit Clock. This was devised by the children and young people and scripted by Drama Facilitators. With the help of amazing volunteers from St Lukes High, the show had the added layer of a magical stage set and props for the cast. The Spirit Clock was imaginative and all the participants enjoyed the fun. The show was a great success and attended by just over 100 people all friends, family and community members. It took place on Saturday 7 December at St John’s Church and kicked off the Christmas spirit well.
Each Wednesday, from August to December 2019, our three drama groups met to improvise and rehearse their very own script for a new Christmas Show, The Spirit Clock.
This was a new adventure in drama for all of the 60 participants [5-12 year olds]. The characters, the storyline, the choreography and the songs all came from their ideas. Senior pupils from St Luke’s High School in Barrhead volunteered to design and make the stage set and the props. They also helped at front-of-house and backstage on the day.
The general comments from the audience reflected that the young cast all displayed plenty of confidence, imagination, creativity and a strong sense of belonging.
The Spirit Clock was an outstanding success and the timing of the show at 2pm attracted an audience of just over 100 comprising family, friends and local community supporters.
